Broadway's best set for Melbourne

The Pajama GameIt's nearly that time of year again - time for Melbourne's Production Company to cast their spell of classic musicals on the city.

This year, The Production Company present three classic musicals sure to delight theatrical tastebuds - The Pajama Game, Camelot and the Australian premiere of Thoroughly Modern Millie.

The Pajama Game kicks off this year's season of shows on July 19 and stars Ian Stenlake (Oklahoma, Cabaret) as Sid, Pippa Grandison (We Will Rock You) as babe and the incomparable Rachael Beck (Cabaret, Singin' in the Rain) as Gladys.

Set in a pajama factory and focusing on a budding romance between the factory's manager and a union representative, the musical's most recognised songs are 'Hey There', 'Steam Heat' and 'Hernando's Hideaway'.

The Pajama Game opened on Broadway on May 13, 1954 at the St James Theatre, starring John Raitt and Janis Paige. The show was revived in the mid 1970's and is currently enjoying a fresh revival at the American Airlines Theatre, where it opened on February 23 this year.

The production plays from July 19-23 at the State Theatre in Melbourne.

In August, the company's most surprising choice of 2006, Camelot, will get underway with Scott Irwin (Kiss Me, Kate), Katrina Retallick (South Pacific) and the legendary Denis Olsen to star in the production.

Camelot opened on Broadway on December 3, 1960 and has enjoyed several revival productions. It won five Tony awards in 1961. It will play at the State Theatre from August 23-27.

The final show of 2006 is Thoroughly Modern Millie which, as revealed by AussieTheatre.com earlier this year,
will star Chloe Dallimore as Millie.

Dallimore, most recently seen in The Producers
and her debut cabaret show Dally In Hollywood, will star alongside Spencer McLaren and Lucy Durack in the production, which will open at the State Theatre in Melbourne on October 4.

Thoroughly Modern Millie
is a romantic comedy based in the 1920šs and focusing on a young girl from Kansas who comes from New York City in search for a new life
.

The Production Company has this year introduced Sunday matinee performances which will particularly assist those living in regional Victoria, who often can't make the evening performances.

Bookings for all shows: 1300 136 166.
